Pia’s therapeutic approach is warm, empathic, and non-judgemental. She prioritises building collaborative, open and authentic relationships with clients. She aims to foster a safe and inclusive space in which clients can explore identity, understand emotions, build self-understanding, and reconnect with their bodies, to navigate life’s challenges.
Drawing from her studies in community psychology, Pia centres her values in her work, utilising an intersectional feminist lens and queer theory to understand sociocultural context and identity as important influences on well-being. With a research background in positive body image, gender diversity, and social issues, Pia also takes a person-centred and strengths-based approach which recognises individuals’ unique strengths, resilience and capacity for growth.
Pia has a special interest and experience working with queer identities and the lived experiences of women and AFAB (assigned female at birth) individuals. Pia has experience working with adults as well as adolescents and young people. She has experience with a broad range of mental health challenges, including sexual health concerns, self-esteem, body image, depression, anxiety, and grief, as well as victim-survivors of trauma. Pia draws from multiple modalities such as CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) in an individualised manner, guided by clients.
In their free time, Pia loves to go for a boogie, get out in nature, or cosy up with arts and crafts or a book.
